We have created connections, agreements, and partnerships with groups across the province to develop, refine, and promote open education in British Columbia and around the world.
B.C. Open Education Librarians
B.C. Open Education Librarians (BCOEL) is an active community of librarians across British Columbia building support, awareness, and adoption of and for open educational practices. BCOEL is committed to developing and promoting strategies to ensure information is open and accessible for everyone. The group meets monthly, and the activities and work of BCOEL are supported by BCcampus.
B.C. Federation of Students
An alliance of 13 post-secondary student unions across the province, B.C. Federation of Students (BCFS) provides a voice for students, advocating for student rights and actively promoting initiatives to reduce the cost of learning, such as the #TextbookBrokeBC awareness campaign.
OpenETC
OpenETC is a community of educators, technologists, and designers focused on providing a more sustainable educational technology infrastructure for the post-secondary institutions of B.C. The group empowers educators by facilitating open technologies to create collaborative, flexible learning and teaching environments.
ETUG
Educational Technology Users Group (ETUG) facilitates ways to enhance learning and teaching through technology. This community of post-secondary educators nurtures an environment of sharing, innovating, and supporting the development of ideas, resources, and ongoing professional development for our educational colleagues in B.C.
William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
The Hewlett Foundation promotes ideas and institutions that lead to a better world. A long-time proponent for the advancement of education for all, the foundation provides funding for a wide range of programs that focus on education, global development, effective philanthropy, and other worthy endeavours. BCcampus has received grants from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to support BCcampus Open Education.
Canada’s Open Education Initiatives
Education in Canada is exclusively a provincial or territorial responsibility: we do not have a formal federal presence to connect open activities on a national level. At BCcampus, we have created strong and successful relationships with groups in other provinces and territories to propel the use of open across the country, benefiting students from Victoria to St. John’s, and everywhere in between.
